01.27.10 Strategy for Oregon Measure 67 Taxes
By Patrick J. Green and John A. DiLorenzo, Jr., David Wright Tremaine, LLP as brought forward by PPI's partnership with AOI

Do you operate your business as a C corporation? With the Jan. 26, 2010, passage of Measure 67 in Oregon, taxes on corporations with sales in the state will increase retroactively to 2009. Feb 1, 2010 -- OREGON - New worker laws in effect
New laws affecting Oregon employers and employees are in place this year. The Register-Guard gives a rundown of some of the most significant ones.

Senate Bill 373 provides a civil right of action for both the obligor and obligee under a child support order when the employer or other person who withholds money fails to pay over that money to the obligee within the time required by law.

Senate Bill 519 prohibits employers from taking adverse employment action against employees who decline to attend meetings or participate in communications concerning the employer’s opinions about religious or political matters. The law requires employers to post a notice of the prohibition. Displaying a copy of the bill should satisfy the posting requirement. This law is being challenged in court.

01.26.10 -- Game Changers in Washington
    Printing Industries of America Perspective

Last week’s election of Republican Scott Brown to represent Massachusetts in the U.S. Senate represented both a political and legislative “game change” on Capitol Hill. While the most obvious effect is the loss of a Democratic 60-vote supermajority, other ramifications have and will continue to emerge during the second session of the 111th Congress. In light of Brown’s upset victory and in advance of President Obama’s first official State of the Union address on Wednesday, Printing Industries of America presents an analysis regarding the political and industry issue impact of the “game change.”

Now's the Time to Reset Marketing for Post-Recession
Lesson For The Print Communications Community??? Walmart, Allstate, Hyundai, Others Adjust Messaging, Media in Advance of Upturn

Though there's still widespread disagreement of just when the industry will put the recession firmly behind it, one thing's clear: Whenever it happens, marketers had better be ready. Forward thinkers such as Allstate, Walmart, New Balance, Macy's, Procter & Gamble, McDonald's and Bank of America are already paving the way to recovery by spending on marketing and product innovation, cementing relationships with new consumers and rewarding loyalists who stuck by their brands during the bad times. They are also creating products and messaging that bridge from recession to recovery.
